chew your pill

Jack ate some under cooked meat.
By the nex day, something had begun to grow in his mouth.
Soon, it began it's slow gravel down his windpipe.
He could feel the bacterial attack heading towards his
Lungs.
But Jack did not worry,
He sauntered into the kitchen, and
Opened up the pill bottle,
shook out three
and popped them in.
Soon he could feel the little creatures retreating
So Jack headed off to bed happy that he had averted
being sick as a dog.

Twenty four hours later,
his throat was raw,
the bugs had reached down his vocal chords.
The illness was back, bigger than ever.

Jack had two pills left.
'Lets think this out" , Jack muttered to himself.
I swallow the pill,
it goes to my stomach, gets absorbed
into my bloodstream,
then soaks into every little corner of my
body, sick or not sick.
It is a dilution thing.
I want to hit the bugs hard,
but it is a circuitous, inefficient route.

The bugs have set up a base camp in my mouth,
thriving between my teeth,
sending marauding bands out,
these are travelin' bacteria,
they gots little flagella
to help them paddle around.

Jack had a eureka moment.
He popped one of his last two pills
into his mouth, let the gel cap slowly melt,
then took a long chew.
Jack didn't rinse his mouth.

Five hours later, Jack did it again.
A long slow chew of his last antibiotic pill,
a 50mg dose of Doxycycline. a small dose,
meant for teenagers to keep their acne
at a dull roar.

so, What happened?
Who won?
Jack or this throat bacteria?
Well lets look at the dilution factor.
one pill diluted into 200 lbs of Jack,
or one pill blasting  an ounce or two of spit?

Thats right, the bugs did not stand a chance.
Jacks throat problem cleared up in hours.
Sincce he wasn't sick,
Jack headed off to work,
pulled out his company laptop
and started typing the day's work.
