How to Be A Star Wars Fan (and Still Be Happy)

Remember that no ending can satisfy
The hunger of a gold tinted memory.

Remember how celluloid hides mess,
a splotch of gel on a lens masking ugly mechanism,
making it float.

Remember that perfection-lust leads to disappointment;
disappointment leads to resentment;
resentment to heaviness;
antithesis to the purpose,
a dark side force-pulling you back from the light
where you long to return.

Remember the shadow-living Sith forever sits,
badly written in the shadows,
blemishing the beauty,
begging your attention,
bemoaning itself,
Making a death in isolation at the source of it all
seem sweeter than trudging through another failed rebellion.

Remember that no matter how many times you tell it you love it,
it will always only tell you it knows,
so you chase it like Naboo gardens
in the wake of progeny,
the apples of more,
preludes to the destruction of worlds,
expecting both divine sweetness and sustenance
but forgetting those are opposite sides of the same force
and the terrible goal is to balance them.

Every single time they put out one of these movies, I'm amazed how weirdly vulnerable I feel. Here's a poem about it.
