The Uninhabitable Earth
How can people live so happily,
Amidst such an unimaginable tragedy
Unnoticed by the untrained eye,
Our beloved planet begins to die.
The hand we have dealt ourselves,
Will turn our heaven into hell itself,
If we don’t learn a better way,
To show care, in this game of life we play.
It’s time for a dramatic shift,
For our ways have clearly gone adrift;
We must act now, and make it swift,
Or through the ashes we will sift.
The things that we once held so dear,
Will, before our eyes, begin to disappear; Our beautiful planet, once called home,
But a barren wasteland, it will become.
Amidst such an unimaginable tragedy
Unnoticed by the untrained eye,
Our beloved planet begins to die.
The hand we have dealt ourselves,
Will turn our heaven into hell itself,
If we don’t learn a better way,
To show care, in this game of life we play.
It’s time for a dramatic shift,
For our ways have clearly gone adrift;
We must act now, and make it swift,
Or through the ashes we will sift.
The things that we once held so dear,
Will, before our eyes, begin to disappear; Our beautiful planet, once called home,
But a barren wasteland, it will become.

Re. The Uninhabitable Earth
You ought to forward this poem to Greta Thunberg. The planet seems to be heating up. The Australian fires & flooding elsewhere are strange events I have noticed, both in their intensity & frequency.

I'm touched that you think our work is good enough to send to Greta Thunberg, Snaggy. 😊 That means a lot, really.
I may consider posting it online somewhere, in addition to here on DUP.
There are so many strange and terrible things affecting our planet right now, and humans are at the root of most of it.
I get very emotional thinking about it, it makes me want to fight to protect it.
Thank you so much for your lovely comment. ❤

Powerful poem Scribbles. From a Daoist perspective I have great trust in the natural laws of Nature...Dao...there's 8 billion humans now...and we all want dinner tonight...a family...a home...some of us want to fly away for a holiday once a year so we need gas for that lol...for me the planet is merely healing itself...yin><yang...climate change will cut the human population...balance and harmony will follow...until next time of course...our biggest problem is that we "humans" seem to think that this amazing planet actually needs us to live LOL.

Thank you very much, Harry.
And you're very right, the earth needs us much less than we need her.
If we could all, somehow, understand how to live in harmony and care for our planet, things would be better. We wouldn't be riding this speeding train off the tracks.
Even hitting the brakes now, there will be a lot of pain.
For every action, there is an equal and opposite reaction.

Sometimes during my morning meditation I will imagine all the other wonderful animals on the planet throwing this big party when we humans become extinct...they laugh and dance and then the wise Owl steps forward and proposes a toast...Here's to the Humans, they weren't here long and caused us a heap of trouble, but thankfully now they are gone. Makes me giggle on my cushion lol.

You both did a stunning collaboration.
"How can people live so happily,

Unnoticed by the untrained eye,
Our beloved planet begins to die."
We will change it. One poet at a time✌

Thank you so much, Lagertha! 😄
"One poet at a time" reading that was magic straight to my heart.
NB deserves the credit for the stanza you quoted, and I agree, he did an awesome job writing it! 😀

Thanks Daniel, it is a very personal passion of mine.
I try very hard not to become too cynical but when I walk outside and see how so many are completely unaware or simply don't care...it makes me lose hope.
I get these type of reactions all the time but here is an example from today:
I got a water at McDonald's and told the lady at the window, "No straw, please".
Her response floored me,
"How will you drink it?"
Her tone was innocent, she had a genuine concern for me, as if I asked her to drop me off in the middle of nowhere and she was like: "But, how will you get home?"
Stunned and dumbfounded, I told her, "Liiiike, a normal perrrrson?"
(Exaggerated to show where there was change in talking speed)
Both looking at the other as if the other was completely crazy....
(I'd pay a lot of money to have gotten that reaction caught on camera!)
Of course I wasn't mad at her, but afterward it really bothered me.
Enough that tears of frustration came to my eyes.
How in the WORLD is it a strange concept to drink without a "sippy straw"!?
I'm not two!!! Do people use sippy cups at home or something???
It makes me wonder, and realize that if something as simple as NOT using a straw is "foreign" and strange...is there any hope?
Do I really have to start "educating" right then and there on the spot? (Because that works well....🙄)
Sometimes I do, if it feels right and I don't feel like I might rub the person the wrong way. Otherwise, I mostly just hope my example is good enough...
Thank you again Daniel. I really appreciate your encouraging comment. ❤

I appreciate a glimpse of your life sugah. I'm at the office. Morning shifts are slow, so I save my DU time for them. In a half hour, i'll walk over the river bridge and then go shopping. Active afternoon following a sedate morning.

I agree, whole-heartedly, sunsettown. ❤
I love this planet and all of the animals that share it with us.
"There is a rapture on the lonely shore,
There is society, where none intrudes,
By the deep Sea, and music in its roar:
I love not Man the less, but Nature more"
-Lord Byron
