The Woods

†††
She saunters alone in these darkened woods,
The only sound from the mocking birds cries,
As night falls in she begins her chants,
On the centenary of those who came and they died…

The grief brought mourning to most who remembered,
Nonetheless it happened here and so far in the past,
The mist starts to fall and the path now obscured,
And the spell from their demise has already been cast…

Her innocence in this domain had been lost long ago,
An ominous darkness within the realms of the abyss,
Precisely how those in the past on that night,
Fell victim to the plight of the evil of the kiss…

She walks to the knoll where they had stood that night,
And she looks down at the ground under her feet,
The mocking bird cries eerily in the distance,
All a chilling reminder that all their souls still bleed…

Behind her the torches burn in the night,
Everything she believed is falling apart,
Nothing in the woods is there to help her,
And now the chills send daggers to her sacred heart…

She was cautioned but failed to heed their warnings,
Her perception distorted as her fear takes control,
The blood on knoll where they stood effervescent,
Beneath her body the spirits take hold…

Challenged by the absence of all reality,
She succumbs with her very last breath,
Those who will follow in her footsteps,
Will die in the woods like the rest.

And it is done.
