Poem About a Poem

words that sink into my brain
a smile grows on my face
each line popping like exploding suns
history begging to be told
rough beats on the streets
drug habits gained and lost
crunching decades into a few bars
ahhh! perfection

this one has it all
love, sex, rock and roll
pondering my next move
looking at the screen like a chess board
maybe I should take out that one line
the one about the dirty world
nah, art must be unhinged

contemplating if the words are fitting
i'm no scholar
don't want to come off too philosophical
oh how this one reminds me of the others
"Goo-Goo Bye" and "Amongst the Stars"
something that was begging to be told
like the ink was seeping out my skin

it all felt like a beautiful dance
dip and coming back up again
but once released
only a few reads
so sad it could bring a tear to my eye
still, I put that poem in a box
place it deep within my heart
there it will lay with the others
it may never get true appreciation
but to me
I hold on to it like a child in my arms
