B.G.M.

Melenated, sophisticated with hair braided
Natural glow, with an afro or short & faded
It can never be debated whether you're unique
From the roots of your hair down to your feet

Accomplishing feats society said that you couldn't
Going against the grain doing things they say you shouldn't
Without cushions you've kept pushing on through troubled waters
Queens with some absent kings raising our sons & daughters

I applaud you for your strength & perseverance
It's ingrained in your DNA; didn't occur by happenstance
You've taken a stance in every conflict throughout history
Why those stories of glory aren't told really isn't a mystery

Patriarchy is driven by ego so they're hidden securely
Like valuable jewels colonizers use; stolen from people like me
Proudly smile & take a bow for weathering the storms
This poem's an ode to you who choose to never conform
