Sleeping with Angels

Sleeping with the angels, the ice falling on my hair.

The city beneath my feet looking like a dream.

I feel my body lifting and the weightless feel of the wind carrying me.

The fear and elation of being unencumbered but knowing I can drop at any time.

I am not tethered to anything I am just free flowing, a weightless feel to my body.

Unhindered by my mortal coil just the purest breath going through my body.

I look around as I traverse the dark city, as quiet as a tomb.

The darkness enveloping me like an old welcoming friend.

The dark sky pitch black with not a star to light my way, the intrinsic beauty of it all.

My heartbeat accelerates the sound deafening to my own ears.

I look around in wonderment passing through the darkness as a translucent figure.

Unheard and unseen my shadow disguised in the inky darkness of the city streets.

The feeling of being alone threatening to overcome me, only held at bay by the beauty that transfixes me.

The sudden feel of euphoria I am drunk with it, I feel as if my body will burst into a million pieces.

In the hazy distance, I see light penetrating my dark solitude, it flickers and then disappears.

My reverie broken by this intruder into my inner world, my darkest peace.

I close my eyes seeking to fall back into the blissful state, yet something is holding me back.

I scan my darkened kingdom and see nothing hiding in the darkness yet there is an unseen presence.

The wind caries an eerie sound of a once-forgotten song, one that is calling me back home.

I fight against the pull wanting to stay wrapped in this world of darkness, my soul floating freely.

The tether to this world growing weaker with every passing moment, I grasp to hold on to a quickly vanishing world.

The persisted light flashes once again and then explodes before my eyes, I am momentarily blinded.

I open my eyes to find myself in my darkened room bereft and drained only wishing to go back to my dark kingdom.
