Salt
I remember you as the
hot wind of a beach town
downtown
our favorite dive bar
put lights up for
Halloween
you made me dance for tickets
we never won
and like the excitement of a new invention
your brain was always reeling;
fish hooks and guts all over
and you
on the pier catching all of them;
free beer in hand
I remember you being good
at everything
and I complained;
discreetly
adoring cigars on your breath;
watching your lips charm me,
always anticipating your mouth
I miss sharing our salted air
and you miscalculating
the cold of the night;
I loved you so much I
drank your wine anyway
on a blacked-out shore,
freezing
and laughing at
your idea of romance
