I'm Sorry (Letting Go)

Iím sorry I wasnít a better father,
Or that I wasnít there for you like you wished,
But Lord knows I tried for your milestones
Öand victories,
Trying to make up for what I may have missed.

Iím sorry I couldnít be there all the time,
Or be there like you always wanted,
Yet I knew our relationship would change
Ömay be estranged,
But I battled everyday exhausted yet undaunted.

Iím sorry because I chose a different path,
But a young manís wrath leads to a darker place,
I couldnít put you through my pain and despair
Öit wasnít fair,
I always felt the blame when I looked at your face.

Iím sorry we all suffered the consequences,
But weíre stronger for the relationships we built,
I know my apologies wonít erase or fix the past
Öbut at last,
Iím forgiving myself and I'm letting go of this guilt.
