The Song of Our History

You told me I'd stayed true to myself
That you still saw the girl from highschool
A knot caught in my throat and I whispered
I don't feel like I'm the same and our eyes met
And I realized that the only thing that's stayed
Is the way I feel about you, yes it's changed
But it's still here singing in my veins
The song of our history starts to pound
Deep inside my head, flowing down, down
And I turn away as my mind plays the scene
You reaching out pressing your hand
Ever so softly against my cheek, on my waist
And you pull me closer; our bodies still remember
How to dance on the notes of our song
You lead and I follow you to the edge
And when the beat drops we dance right off
Your arms around my waist we fall
Dancing in the air between heartbeats
High on that whisper of nostalgia
On "remember when's" and "what if's"
Oh, the way your mouth says my name
Just another shift in tempo in our song
The way you moan my name, yell my name
Please, just say my name once again
Let's hit repeat and dance once more
Please, just once more, dance with me
On those high notes on the song of our history
