really like your 'con text'... rings all sorts of 'this is true' bells

maybe consider replacing line 2 with 'a bucolic scene', referencing the romanticised view of countryside, an untrue representation. to me, feels a little less of a mouthful.

hmmn, imma thinking these are all deliberate as an integral part of the poem. underlying the ill-educated appeal of certain political spin :D

Admittably line 2 is a bit redundant. I'll have a think, as "bucolic" is  not a word natural to my vocabulary. Though it does sound a bit like a disease or illness; "leperous" certainly would resonate with "rot".

This is brilliant. I have to admit I didn’t read any political subtext here until I read the comments from others and then got it with the “duh” punch.

I felt this piece more along the lines of how we all might tend to take shelter behind our  own self painted murals to show the world only what we think they want to see and what we think we want to project and yet “but at the end of the day?  
   
it's just a poor white-wash job  
everyone sees through “
