For All I Know
I don’t know if the silence speaks or I just imagine
I know the truth of longing is longing for you
How long have I knelt by the altar of your memory in unanswered prayer
Waiting for the feelings of my soul to make an impression on yours
Is there no longer a place where the sacred tears of my heart may fall
To water one last thought of me
How is it my heart still knows you so deeply and so well
Who have turned the page on me
And for all I know
The ink has blotted and dried
And sealed those pages for good
I know the solitary of silence
The receding of hope in hopeless things
The measure of the sun and the moon and passing days
Not to be marked
For they don’t mean a thing
For I don’t mean a thing
To the one who gave my life meaning
Even if it was just a dream
And fleeting
But for me there are still thoughts of you
They wake to drive away my sleep
They whisper in the off moment and unsettle my day
My heart can still feel
Though it can never again touch
You
I know the truth of longing is longing for you
How long have I knelt by the altar of your memory in unanswered prayer
Waiting for the feelings of my soul to make an impression on yours
Is there no longer a place where the sacred tears of my heart may fall
To water one last thought of me
How is it my heart still knows you so deeply and so well
Who have turned the page on me
And for all I know
The ink has blotted and dried
And sealed those pages for good
I know the solitary of silence
The receding of hope in hopeless things
The measure of the sun and the moon and passing days
Not to be marked
For they don’t mean a thing
For I don’t mean a thing
To the one who gave my life meaning
Even if it was just a dream
And fleeting
But for me there are still thoughts of you
They wake to drive away my sleep
They whisper in the off moment and unsettle my day
My heart can still feel
Though it can never again touch
You
