Time

This time wasn’t ours but we stole it anyway,
Your love wasn’t mine but you gave it to me everyday,
You gave promises to me that were impossible to keep,
And stared blankly every time I would weep.

Gone were the times you just couldn’t walk on by,
Gone were the times I’d say jump and you’d say how high,
Gone were the times that you cared about me,
And gone were the times you were sure that we were meant to be.

He wears the horns that I carved myself,
I found no way to nurse him back to full health,
He looks at me with a vacant look in his eyes,
I was a battle he could not win and this life of pain was his prize.

Together we were so unlucky and ruined the lives of many,
Neither of us ever believed in that penny,
The curse is in knowing I would go through this with you all over again,
I’d even bring myself back to this point to use this power of the pen,
This was my story and it had to be told,
For all I have to say is “I wish you were mine to hold.”
