Life's Blocks Take Two (Collaboration with Gypsy Red)

On my life’s shelf nothing sits,
a relic, my only friend, dust, visits.
I let down my defenses
got smacked out of my senses.
A dope I have been, a repeated trend,
a tree that doesn’t break inevitably bends.
When will I finally begin to see,
"Fool" fits me to a perfect tee,
from my path, I lost my way,
an undue price, hell to pay.
Dreams and hopes dashed,
Like ancient bones from the past,
artifacts are all that remains
of the once hopeful scene attained.

A late great dinosaur, the last,
wandering about fading fast,
tribes left me to burn on the pyre
for of my naiveté they grew tired.
But like the phoenix I do emerge
from the ashes of the past, a wise bird.
I, rejuvenated, certainly did rise
up above the current strife.

I bear in mind that I should be
an ever thoughtful conferee.
A worth should always be found
in the depth of a soul if it is sound.
For every scar that etched my heart
I needed to learn the lesson it did impart.
No trace of vengeance shall mar the way;
allowing me to reach a higher plane.
For why spend time in utter darkness
it’s too precious, not to be spent in abjectness.
Complacency catches you like quicksand
don’t let that be written on your epitaph.
