Image for the poem soul

soul

quietly they come
one by one...hand in hand
my feelings

they sing songs of freedom
slaves to my hardness
I never cry--
no not in ten years

repressed emotions capture me
when I try to write
they rise to the surface in rebellion

they tell me what they think
what's long since been on their minds
so I have no choice to but to see in black and white
the truth of my soul

in my silent time they come
pleading with me to listen
depression shouts of revolt
I won't be having a good time
while their petitions are ignored

I wish I could say tears silently roll down my face
and my pain finally understood
sadly not a one

taps silently play in the back of my mind
as a warrior emerges from the ashes
proclaiming victory

my soul numb
