When Love Calls (Chapter Seven)

QUINTESSENTIAL TRIBECA LOFT
New York, New York
The Next Morning

Marcus kissed the back of Zaniyah’s neck as she placed the last dish inside the glassed cabinet.

Zaniyah pushed the cabinet door close.

“I see you not only cook under the covers beautiful woman, but you know your way around a kitchen.”

Zaniyah turned around and faced Marcus.

“This Italian woman does have skills.”

Marcus stroked Zaniyah’s cheek.

“That she does.” Marcus wrapped his arms around Zaniyah’s waist and pulled her closer to his body. “What are your plans today beautiful woman?”

Zaniyah straightened the silk tie around Marcus’ neck. She linked her arms around his neck.

“I have not made any, and you?”

“I have to train several FBI incoming recruits, and then I’m taking my beautiful woman out to dinner later on, and then maybe a movie, make love to her all night long until exhaustion sets in.”

The title of FBI Agent did not sit to well with her mental status.

Marcus glimpsed the worrisome look in Zaniyah’s eyes.

“I…I have other plans this evening.”

Zaniyah dropped her arms from around Marcus’ neck and stepped back.

“Zaniyah dammit it’s my job, and I thought we were past this doubtful stage once we made love; you know, no condoms, only you and me.”

Yes a job that could get you and me both killed she thought.

Zaniyah palmed her curls backwards.

“I do not think this us thing is going to work. I can’t put my heart out there, knowing you are the man capable of crushing it.”

“Where is this coming from?”

“As you may know by now, my last name is, Delaro.”

“What does that have to do with you and me?”

“It’s a question I’m not willing to find out the answer too.” Zaniyah stepped out of Marcus’ arms. “I have to go.”

Marcus slicked his hand back through his hair. He grabbed a hold of Zaniyah’s arm as she passed him.

“So, what becomes of this, us?”

Zaniyah looked up into Marcus’ eyes.

“Nothing. We never began this, or, us thing.”

Zaniyah read a thousand emotions cross Marcus’ face in mere seconds.

“As my beautiful woman wishes.”

Marcus let Zaniyah’s arm go and walked away from her. He walked over to the door and disarmed his alarm system.

“I assume you’re grown enough to shut the door on your fucking way out.”

Marcus opened the door and walked out his loft. He pulled the door close with a reverberating band.

Zaniyah jumped. She looked over at the grandfather clock in the corner. She had just enough time to make it to Martinez’s residence, before her father’s hired men come looking for her. Zaniyah rushed over to the staircase, and ran up to steps.

FBI HEADQUARTERS
Criminal, Cyber, Response, and Services Branch Department
New York, New York
Director Marcus Modarius’ Office

Marcus unlocked the door to his office. He entered and removed his suit jacket. He hung it on the coat rack. He pushed the door close, and strolled over to his deck. He looked down at his Movado watch. He knew his secretary would be knocking on his door right about now.

Someone knocked on his door. He perched himself on the edge of his desk.

“Enter.”

His door opened.

His secretary had his usual thermal cup of coffee in one hand and a stack of files, and his daily agenda, outlining several meetings in the other.

“Good morning Mrs. Chambers.”

“Good morning Mr. Modarius, and welcome back. How was your vacation?”

“Short.”

Marcus stood and walked around his desk. He pulled the leather wingback chair back and sat. He pulled his chair under his desk.

“I am officially off vacation.”

“Should I come back and start this interaction over.”

Marcus looked up.

His secretary winked at him.

“If that’s the case. Could I play the invisible role for the entire day?”

“Not with all these meetings you have to attend today, and I’ve just added one more meeting late this afternoon.”

“I’ve always stated my secretary is top notch among the rest.”

“And don’t you forget it when Christmas bonus are issued. Oh, here you are.”

Mrs. Chambers set Marcus’ thermal coffee cup down on his desk.

“Why don’t you go and grab your cup of coffee, and pull up a chair. I’m sure there are letters for you to dictate on my behalf.”

“Yes sir.”

Mrs. Chambers placed the files, and stack of papers down on Marcus’ desk; she placed the daily mail on top of the heap. Mrs. Chambers turned and walked to the door. She walked out Marcus’ office, only to return several seconds later.

SEACOAST TERRACE APARTMENTS
Brooklyn, New York
Later That Afternoon

“So let me get this straight. You and the doorman, Marcus spent the night together.”

“Yes.”

“In the same bed?”

“Yes.”

“Your father will kill you, if he ever found out.”

“He will never hear it from my lips.”

“Wait, what about the amazing crush you have on Domenico?”

“He’s yesterday’s news.”

“The same man who you gave your virginity too.”

“After I confined in you, I thought we agreed never to mention that again.”

“I just do not want to see you get hurt over a man who your father would never approve of.”

“I have myself.”

Martinez looked over her balcony. She saw a black long stretch limousine pull in front of her building.

“Good, because here comes your father’s hired men.”

Zaniyah looked over Martinez’s balcony.

“Shit.” Zaniyah combed her fingers through her curls. “Thanks for everything.”

“For the sheltered life you live, you are thankful. Oh, we’re still on for this evening.”

“Yes.”

“You can meet Rosalina and me in front of the football stadium, and try to keep your security squad at bay, for some reason they always scare all the handsome men away.”

Both women laughed.

Someone pounded on Martinez’s door.
