Lilies
I lay here today
to observe my surroundings
I look onto the clear pond
And I notice the lilies
The beautiful sweet fragrance
That the little flowers have
It invigorates my soul
and lifts my spirit
I stand up and wade
out to the beauty
I am knee deep in mud
but I don’t notice
The smell intoxicates me
I feel like I am dancing
with my girl on the pads
I pick the flower
I didn’t stop or go away
until I had a bouquet
Then I looked at the dull pond
regretting what I have done
I walk home with grief
feeling like a thief
I drop them in a vase
and give them to my girl
I hope at least she appreciates
The flowers beauty
At least another can
But no one else
What have I done?
