Mother

I needed you
And you weren’t there
I was so stupidly scared
You’re supposed to be my rock
Supposed to catch me when I fall
Instead you just let me drop
Onto the concrete floor
You always said I was a burden
A nobody, a brat,
Just an ugly fat kid who never fought back
I’m happy when you leave
And better when you’re gone
That’s not how it’s supposed to be
Somethings completely wrong
I begged for your approval
You hated all my words
I was never good enough
Then I said something to make you think
And you tried to go back
Nothing can be said now
You’ve stabbed me in the back
But look at me mother dearest
I am what you made
I’m stubborn, strong, and broken
A force to be reckoned with
And I have you to thank
Your words have molded me
Your actions may have hurt
Now I am stronger because of what you did
Yet you are forgiven
And I want you to know
This is just a house
It was never my home
I have a new family
Of friends I hold so dear
They love and support me
The things you never did
Blood may be thicker than water
But I may as well be adopted
