Re. common sense and racism
this makes me think:
why should i have to [italic]want[/italic] others
to treat me as their equal--
when they already should?
as to the concept that we all share more in common as members of the human race than differences, i wholeheartedly agree!
edit: okay the itals didn't come out but you get my drift :D

Nobody says you have to... it's a choice...don't you see...but by the same token, if you do so desire...better begin by
believing that we are all born human beings
believing that we are all born human beings

The real issue is that we are all equal ( human), but we are all not the same. I think we get the two confused.

Equal in that we're human..
but each person an individual ...
The same is how we should be treating each other.

this was exactly my point
your poem read (to my eyes) like something a caucasian might say to a person of colour, kind of laying the blame at their feet and how they should be the ones behaving differently. your words sparked what popped up in my head, so your poem certainly created a reaction - that's a good thing! and - as i my wont - i was addressing the poem, not your personal ideology since i have no idea what that might be. :)

Re: Re. common sense and racism
Gotta stop building walls
we should all be behaving differently...
it's the attitude that's all wrong...
no one is responsible for the color of their skin or the shape of their eye...
no more than they can control the family into which they were born...
In the end it doesn't seem to matter...
the cream always rises to the top of the bottle...no matter what color.
be it black, brown red, white or yellow.

So so true
How do so many of us not see this?
I believe we're all basically the same yet unique in our own ways as Buddhakitty said but we can't get that through our head!

It seems a difficult concept for way too many...
a problem universal ...
it's not rocket science...
but that might be easier I'm beginning to think

That's the thing about poetry...
it provides common ground
for you and for me...
to communicate
with impunity... Ely

I know you are, silly girl...
you have just indulged in black or gallows humor...
which is defined as a comedic style that makes light of subjects we find discomfort in discussing...
not a bad idea...if it prompts us to discuss.

No lie... the lady got that right... it's like we make up the differences as we go along putting in what suits us at the time.
Pet peeve: people who loudly proclaim... "Why don't these people speak English?"
Because you are in their country, you DOLT.
Why don't you learn español... arsehole?

Oooh, this a thought provoker. I would imagine the frame of mind when reading might factor into the translation. I see only one race...human...with all its beautiful textures and personalities. What buddhakitty said was spot on...differences do not translate to inequality.

Death is the only pure form of democracy...as the Buddha pointed out with his first noble truth...it is suffering that connects us to each other. POWERFUL INK, Ely.
