Wasted Effort : A Letter

Hello,

I wrote this letter for you.
I think you will know who you are when you read it.
I want to thank you- for making me so confident about my chest, my backside- none of those things I used to care about.
You were the first to show this sort of interest in me, and I couldn't help but like it at the start.
Throughout the years, many have followed the example you set; Confirming what I, by then, started to fear.

I really cared about you. Always have, probably always will.
Sometimes my position shifted. I went from being a mattress to sleep on, to being a pillow to catch your tears.
But that was it.

Thank you- for all the things you never did for me, even if you knew I would have moved mountains for you.
And when future partners wonder why I am so insecure, and why I don't believe them when they call me smart or funny-
The answer that follows is your whispered name.

Sincerely,
Your Lost Chance
