A Breaking of the Gods Pt. 2 Death

The only Tartarus I had known
was the one festering in the darkness
of broken minds

I lied to the stars once..

but of course, they never heard
and that lie would defeat me
until the day the Ferryman
fetched the gold from my eyes
and led me on to hell

And I was a foolish, selfish, human thing
made of whatever material could tear
on the jagged ends of broken glass-
minds that break from horrors past
mouths that scream from broken homes
outlasted by the shadow of a dark
that would always wait in the corners
of bedroom walls and family halls
angered fathers and weeping mothers
shunning sisters, killing brothers
a slaughter of love on the steps
of a breaking, aching heart

There's something
we, the human, overlooked
took advantage of like the wood
beneath our feet on lamplit decks
the wreckage of soil on fertile land
the desecration of hallowed temples
now in ruin under careless sands-

It was the disease
And..

what is this disease?

I felt it the moment I bled
to the moment I left my home
and saw the many forms of Death-

Oh..
the disease was Death

And I wept for my mortality
the loss of my innocence
the destruction of my youth
and I wish I had more time
to play with my child's mind
the nymphs in the trees,
the sirens out at sea
and the wonders of the gods
over ambrosia on Olympian nights
sighing at the wonders of Gaia
with his hand in mine

And now..

They have taken my temples
and sacked them of the riches
my people saw as

Sacred

Hades beckons with his pale hands
a smile in those ancient eyes
love still somehow living
in his unliving chest
clinging, something like hope
to keep the wheel of humanity
turning the way it should

Up above and beyond the fold of shadows
I find..

I don't miss the atrocities
committed to please the greed
of a /new/ world

And in some twisted way
perhaps I shouldn't
Perhaps I should..?

I find, at last~

Peace.
