September Moon

in ash and hazel i imagine you
on haunches and howling
vibrations into thickets of pine
shooting precisely toward the moon

that lights your aged face
with almost freckles
speckles lips cherry-blue
and wearily that harvest moon compares her pale
to yours
she is a solemn second place
i inhale images
of your feet thudding against needles
rain flooding your mop and your shirt
bravado leaving through worn shoes
i imagine steadying you in a clearing
turning my back on our modern world
earth to earth we root in the safety of it
and again - another moon she is gone
