For Mike

I sighed to your heartbeat
On the wings of a falling star
With the tears of my longing
And the ache of my soul beside.

I saw you when you were weeping,
And my heart cracked above the sun.
If we could have held hands and danced a while
And if we might have kissed and lay in the water
Today of all days to fall in love with you again
I would have taken the sky and given it to you.

See the little lights circling all around.
Little moons and stars where fires surround
Falling softly like little leaves to the ground.
See the moon bows and hear the sound
Of our hearts side by side
All through the night tide
We kiss goodnight in the spheres
With their music in our ears.

And I want to tell you you are my only love
Until days are no more, and night is myth.
And beyond the legends of what once was All;
In the dust of diamonds that once was Heaven
And with the shade that might have been space
I will sing to you, though all voices are still,
And time is but a dim story, never believed.
