Normal Living

who's to say I'm not young?
I'm not old ether
just experienced
learned a thing or two
used to be a sinner
definition of troubled youth
breaking into houses
without a thought of who I was hurting
now I'm a saint, I guess
or something in between
used to be the male whore
thought I was playing the game
found out I was the one being played
now I'm loyal
kissing the girl who always believed
there was something better to me
even when I couldn't see it
but now I can see life's a gift
wish to live it peacefully
bills pile up
my job takes up my time, and sanity
think I just might work myself to death
but there is an upside to this
I got no kids
only the love of my life
so I dance with her
rocking back and forth to some old songs
thinking about how far we've come
I used to take drugs
drink like I had a death wish
now I don't need that to live anymore
just need long walks in the park
an occasional out on the town
during the weekends maybe a small get together
might seem boring to some
but there's something comforting
in the "normal"
got pretty tired of fucking strangers
they took my love
threw it the trash
it's true what they say
rather have a few good friends
than a thousand fake ones
not sure what the future may hold
just glad the past is behind me now
