The Shadow Hunter
I feel it on me sometimes
This gaze, this frightening gaze
As I run through life's maze
He's haunting me with his footsteps
And his doomsday rhymes
I feel him near
The shadow hunter
Shadows of the past he brings with him
Memories of unforgotten sin
Future tragedy his claws
Scenes where all you can do
Is to clutch at straws
Hopelessness is always just a breath away
When he makes his way
Into your life
When he brings the shadows
Will you haunt me til my days are done?
Will there never be a day when you are gone?
I hear you laughing, and saying
Like that raven from the night's plutonian shore
"Never, nevermore!"
I raise my head to the drumbeat
Of never, nevermore
If you're not willing to go back to your own shore
Very well then, catch me if you can!
This is the only way to meet him:
With an answering smile
For every mocking word
Taking every day
Where you dodge his swinging sword
As victory
You threaten, and I smile
I know your power
I know your word of never, nevermore is truth
The answer is the spirit of true youth
Where unsafe and uncertain every hour
Passes as wind that blows into your sail
The shadow hunter breathes upon us all
And if we know or not, we dance his dance
For destruction and damnation are never more than a breath away
Such is the fate of humans, so greet every day
As an adventure
Embrace the nevermore
Let it take you
To a new shore
For now's the time to sing a song of daring
It's what you did not dare to do that is the anquish of your life
It is not shame to fail, but not to strife
To fulfill your heart's true yearning
For one day you'll cross over to his shore
And be forever his, where is your safety then you foolish mortal?
Where is the harvest of your life, if it's not now?
"Now" is your weapon in this endless struggle
"Now" is the victory that makes the only joy there ever will be enter
"Now" is the song that drives away
For one more precious day

Author's Note
I learned during the last two years that despite everything you do to stay safe and plan for the future, your life can be turned upside down in the blink of an eye. Although we don't think about it, this applies to all of us. For me, it is a dormant illness, for others financial struggles, or other things. But we can only meet the uncertainty of life by preparing and doing our best, by seeing each safe day which turns out as planned as a precious jewel and cherish it. Life is too precious to be lived in fear just because it is fragile. Embrace your fragility, and let it make you humble, grateful and wise enough to find the right balance between daring now and caring for the future. The right balance for yourself.

I think the idea of the shadow hunter is very relatable. I guess it’s a metaphor for something of the worse things in life. Always lurking.
