What Is There To Write Poetry About

( a Quatern )

What is there to write poetry about?
The endless monsoonal humidity,
The triple digit heat clear into night
That starts again before it’s time to eat.

It’s too damn hot to eat, you kiddin’ me,
What is there to write poetry about?
That I keep wipin’ down with alcohol,
That I can’t get more naked than I am.

There’s nothin’ sexy to me come the night.
A minute on the phone “I gotta go!”
What is there to write poetry about?
You said you’d call, I slept right thru it all

If I seem grumpy, I’m way overdue.
We used to have alotta time to spare,
But it’s so hot I miss your spoken verse.
What is there to write poetry about?
