A simple man

I'm a simple man ( mistaken for a tramp)

I'm a simple man of worth unmeasured
With little that could tip a scale
My sentence is my own creation
My penance...that's another tale.
These dry cracked lips knew passion once
And sought the comfort of a breast
As lust spilled, I was there to drink
But within a whisper...all was lost.
Beneath this arch I seek my shelter
A crumpled letter torn and stained
In these gnarled hands that could have  held her
I kindle comfort from a flame.
I am a brother in the eyes of the ugly
Ugly in the eyes of the blind
Blind to the needs of the greedy...
But greedy for the wealth that they find

I am a simple man
