Interrupted Sleep

I stir dreamily, my mind coming into focus.

I can hear them.

The faint ruckus of childish fun; the high pitched squeal of what is probably a young girl about eight years old, but could quite easily be mistaken for a boy a few years younger.

Damn kids! Every afternoon at my nap time they insist on their inconsequential play right outside my bedroom window. I have had it!!

My bedroom wall shakes as I go searching for them. God only knows what they are doing out there; using my house as a baseball catcher no doubt.

There they are, up ahead. I’ve put up with this long enough. About time something was done.

I raise my dorsal fin as the familiar tune “Da,da,da,da – da, da, da, da” plays in my head. I set my eyes on the swinging legs in front of me with only one thought.

Dinnertime Bruce!
