Ninth Day of August
the first morning glory
of summer
bloomed today
pale
with the slightest blush
of pink
like desert moonlight
eight years ago
you left
this earthly realm
others live
because of
your generosity
kidneys
liver
corneas and pupils
‘harvested’
by skilled surgeons
transported
on ice
to
(who knows where)
implanted
into other
human beings
allowed them to
see a child
graduate from college
hold a grandchild
while i grieved
i will not
see you graduate
nor
hold a grandchild
when I see
that first morning flower
in all it’s glory
when the moon is full
desert washed
with pale light
i am reminded
your essence
your soul
your being
is with me
in my heart
of summer
bloomed today
pale
with the slightest blush
of pink
like desert moonlight
