It always makes me curious to read poems suggesting people lied to them about being loved.  As if nothing ever changes in the world. As though everything, even their own feelings about people, things, food, and so forth don't change beyond their control.  Perhaps they did love the person with everything they had when they said it.  If we can't control our own feelings regarding certain things, how do we expect others to?

And, Love, most of all cannot be controlled - but leads only those who would heed the call.

This is the proverbial cautionary tale of not  believing everything you're told. Some people will say anything to get what they want. We must be as gentle as lambs and as wise as a fox.
