A Short Story About Poetry

Hello.
This is a short story about poetry.
It is not a poem.
And I am not a poet.
Many poets are liars.
Some tell the truth at times, when it suits.
Poets are like ordinary people.
Poets are ordinary people.
They write things down, and then read them.
They write thoughts down, and then read them.
Some poets tell stories.
Some poets tell fibs.
The stories are often about them, and other poets.
Most poets write to get published.
And they choose topics that publishers might like.
So they write about minority groups.
They write about the indigenous, and holocausts.
The feminist poets write about their vaginas, and tampons.
The male poets write about love, and getting high.
Most, if not all, poets are crazy.
And their poems are a release, to get the madness out.
Most, if not all, will never fully get the madness out.
Because new madness almost always comes along.
The world offers it, and it is taken in.
The poet holds self esteem and doubt in one hand,
And ego and narcissism in the other.
Few poets balance things well.
Some poets write about nature and beauty.
These poets are often hopeful.
Some poets give up.

Most poets read other poets, and go to poetry readings.
Most poets hang out with other poets, and listen to poems.
Some listen better than others.
Some read better than others too.
Some poets love the sound of their own voices.
A few even admit to being microphone whores.
Most poets love the applause from the audience.
Some poets watch the audience, and note the applause.
Some note the amounts and volumes of applause.
Some note the occasional yells and whoops.
A few young city audiences click when they like parts of poems.
Some poets appreciate the clicking while others do not.
Some parts of audiences talk while poets recite and read -
This is generally regarded as bad manners and is condemned.
Many poetry readings have a thing called 'Open Mic'.
Poets sign up for 'Open Mic' before the poetry readings begin.
The poets add their names to lists until the lists fill.
There are usually MC's or Masters/Mistresses of Ceremonies.
The MC's usually control the lists and introduce the poets.
The MC's also read or recite odd sacrificial poems.
Sacrificial poems can be theirs or others.
Poetry can be work or hobby and rarely pays.
Poetry can and often does pay by way of camaraderie.
The audiences are usually kind, generous and supportive.
Some audience members do not write but enjoy listening.
Many poetry readers likewise might just enjoy reading.
Most poetry audiences like poems they find agreeable -
That is to say nice sentiments that make them feel good.
Few audiences like poetry that is offensive or disagreeable.
Most audiences like attractive readers best.
