love letters for the end of the world: I
would that the fences gave out, and if they so should i would gleefully go--
like a snake from the opened mouth of a trap into the hold of the undergrowth,
like Orpheus into the dark, like Romeo's heart to his paramour's window.
like Icarus, as lovingly soaring up as falling to the grasp of the waters below.
would that i were unfettered by my love and my love's restraint,
(round my wrists and ankles, spider-silk with a mountain's weight)
for love does keep me bowed, yet love shall set me standing straight
come time to meet my due-- a lifetime yet, alas, i wait.
for love has kept me bowed and love will see me rise in turn.
and when my love does rise with me, the world will surely ...learn.
like a snake from the opened mouth of a trap into the hold of the undergrowth,
like Orpheus into the dark, like Romeo's heart to his paramour's window.
like Icarus, as lovingly soaring up as falling to the grasp of the waters below.
would that i were unfettered by my love and my love's restraint,
(round my wrists and ankles, spider-silk with a mountain's weight)
for love does keep me bowed, yet love shall set me standing straight
come time to meet my due-- a lifetime yet, alas, i wait.
for love has kept me bowed and love will see me rise in turn.
and when my love does rise with me, the world will surely ...learn.
