The Heart Wants What It Wants

The heart wants what it wants & does the time,
You think that it’s the brain, a clever fix.
That’s not the part that’s keeping you alive,
It paces you and me, the head just ticks.

Whatever else it is it ain’t a brick,
The heart wants what it wants & does the time.
Your mind will jump thru’ hoops for any trick,
A Shih Tzu in a flaming pool of lime.

The brain’s just full o’ words, ain’t it a crime,
And pulls the switches, miming every beat.
The heart wants what it wants & does the time,
A head must keep its cool or overheat.

We think we know the score no matter what,
The same day after day ain’t worth a dime.
It’s true what’s said of work, you’re in a rut,
The heart wants what it wants & does the time.
