the Dark Side of Blue

I was a hopeful, naive little thing
when I vanished into the trees
I was still singing
still singing

I reached for the shiny things
out of reach beyond the sky
I wished I could grow wings
and that the birds could teach me
how to fly

I wanted to fly

In my sorrow
I walked into the ocean deep
where the colder things
could put me to sleep
and I prayed you'd find me
but I left with autumn's leaves

I'm sorry, my love
so sorry, so sorry
I'm so very sorry
my love
x2

sometimes I wish I faded
long before

I'm sorry I wasn't good enough
lately I've tried to eat the air
just so I could be
small enough for you
I tried to do my hair
to be pretty enough for you
and now Im slipping
into the dark side of blue

In my sorrow
I walked into the ocean deep
where the colder things
could put me to sleep
and I prayed you'd find me
but I left with autumn's leaves

I'm sorry, my love
so sorry, so sorry
I'm so very sorry
my love
x2

all this time I've wasted
trying to be right

I was a singing, swaying dancer
but my feet timed wrong
maybe if I were a little faster
I could have kept up
with your song

I rushed into you
thinking you were the shelter
that would keep me warm
I should have stayed outside
why do I always bother
trying to leave the night?

I'm sorry, my love
so sorry, so sorry
I'm so very sorry
my love
x2

all this time
Ive been slipping
into the dark side of blue
