The Cliff

Sitting comfortably in my chair
By the cliff I nearly fell into
Enjoying my cold beer and a cigarette
Watching them walk towards their doom

I was lucky, I admit
Or just too stubborn to let go of the small branch
I grabbed while falling
Nope bitch, not for you, not for anyone

The road signs are there
we all just choose not to see them
It’s understandable, the view is breathtaking
Beyond the edge

The voice in the air tells them all they need to hear
Magical words of undying love
Oh yes, love can never die
But they can….

The road signs ? A previous relationship that hurt badly
The voice in the air just wants to fill the void
So it tells them sweet lil lies
The voice prefers sex, because it’s not love

Because the voice has given true love
To someone else
But the walkers’ ego cannot accept this
That they’re just a spare tire

So they keep walking
The voice may be silent for days (maybe some guilt ?)
Then it comes back, beckoning (void is hungry)
And they fall, screaming

And I light another cigarette in their memory.
