How To Write A Sonnet

All lines in a sonnet must have ten iambs
Lines that alternate will rhyme in the end
Like lions taking turns with the cute lambs
Whose soft fuzzy behinds they must defend

Four lines compose stanzas known as quatrains
While alternating lines end in the rhymes
Many sonnets of love some about pains
Were commonly written in Shakespeare’s times

When kings and knights fought fire-breathing dragons
And princesses slept in the high tower keep
Poets wrote sonnets drank wine from flagons
And queens commanded servants while in their sleep

The heroic couplet approaches fast
Two lines that rhyme end the sonnet at last
