Soul Storm

I look ahead to the dark sky
There’s a storm brewing above
I need to get to my storm shelter
That’s saved me many times in love

Clouds will be churning in my soul
Just like they were spinning outside
The wind will pick up my heart rate
Winding through thick, thin and wide

I heard a rumble from a far but
It could’ve come from deep in my chest
I’m running across the grass and
The lighting strikes a tree to my left

It sparked up a storm within my body
As it sparks up the dusky evening sky
I slam the door to the storm shelter shut
Now I wait in here, as the storm passes by

But what would we do though?
If we didn’t have one for our heart
Would the rain rejuvenate our souls
Or would the winds rip us apart?

And, if so, where do we even run to?
We can’t find a shelter to run inside
When the storm wreaks havoc on our soul
That’s just it, we’d have nowhere to hide

But the real storm is picking up now
It’s loudly rattling the old shelter’s door
If the hinges are as jarred as my tender heart
It may not hold up against much more

But it’s ripped away, like the air in my lungs
Debris all barreling through the air too
As I sink further into the corner of the shelter
If I even survive this, who will I pray to?

Because the entire house is crushed
There’s so much destruction in its wake
Like the walls of my chest cavity and yet
My hearts still beating, thank fuck’s sake
