Image for the poem poppy

poppy

a red poppy bloom where she shouldn't
fighting her way to the sun
a crack in the sidewalk allowed her freedom

the number two escaped execution
it wasn't number one
but who wanted to be?

I fell hard into the brambles losing my way
uncharted territory
I'm used to following a man

the dawn shook her head at me
and said your incorrigible
you naughty minx--

in crisis, you always look for an exit
yeah, baby, it's time for a smoke break
drag long and hard on that dick

painted a villain you might as well be one
a Warhol slut you've been pissed on
oxidation of the soul reveals a lot

roll the dice
sorry, it didn't come up aces
grab life by the balls
things will go your way

wipe those baby blues
sometimes things don't work out
but for you, I've made allowances

lonesome red poppy
bloom where you want
instead of trying to blend--
within a field of orange flowers

you will never be a fit
my misfit of adversity
so don't try to be
