The Lights Began To Flicker
Confused in the wind of
a thousand days against
the blue of nothingness
The stone gods
bear witness
as voices are raised
To be among
the few embraced
between the waves
Sinking, to disappear
into canyon fissures
Deeper, than the
shadows
of heaven can reach
Sin upon sin
wades in spume
Then with my body
I wash you clean
From last spring
when I couldn't walk
The palsy of
a prisoner's first sob
A tranquil sorrow
in a dog's rib cage
And now, a morning
so fair and yet, the
gulls are flying inland
There is no reason
what we need to say
It’s all there in silence
like a tomb
So close to the edge
of a conscience
that sleeps in thunder
Unyielding past,
scattered
and mummified
Were you ever
that young
like I never was
I wanted to tell you
not to hold your breath
As I was trying to do
at that moment
turning blue
It never works
Though in time you'll
remember nothing more
when I return to the sea
How much easier
to crawl inside me and
bring the sun with you.

Obvious to me why this won, it has a tenderness in harmony with the eloquence of it's meter and construction. Your close is literally breathtaking. Wonderful to drink it in a few times, admiring various aspects.

Aw. *hugs* I'd like to say that my comportment is compulsory in it's professional mien, because, having been on the internet sharing my works for over twenty years, in the long run, it is the best possible position to take, but it doesn't mean I am bereft of unexpressed fondness. I'm always around if you need a friend with a listening ear, who's discretion can be trusted.

This is awesome, Jade {English people use the word 'awesome' sparingly :)) }. Congrats many times over. I love the subtle weaving of varying levels of existence that capture so well an essence of 'esoteric'.

As I said when we were discussing this entry, reading this is like viewing a abstract expressionist painting... The longer you spend with it, the more meaning comes through and the greater the emotions it evokes.

Gosh, tommy, the reading and then the chat after, made such a difference as you know so well. So many people think a long-time poet should be confident at all times. But if that were so, a person whose artistic passion is everything would stop growing because they’d think they had “arrived”. That’s the worst kind of mindset to have.
It’s good to know we have each other to stay real.
