Image for the poem moth to my flame

moth to my flame

it doesn’t matter if it’s on paper
or if it’s on a dirty table cloth
if my words were a flame
i know that you would be the moth

if my flame is dancing all night long
and cutting shadows on the wall
whether it’s blue, red or golden
you can’t see while so enthralled

they say don’t play with fire
or you are sure to get burned
you can test the heat and see, but
remember you’ve been warned

moths are not at all graceful
like their lovely cousin butterflies
like you, they want to play with my fire
and one by one, they all will die

if you want my flames to graze you
then just take a dip, all too close
let my heat lap at your wings
and I’ll lift you up in smoke
