Image for the poem A girl in her swing

A girl in her swing

Not much to give
Just a piece of my heart
To use as you wish
Across these miles apart

Light summer breeze
June bugs on a string
I smile knowingly to myself
Only we know these things

Blanket of sparkles
Rise from the grass
Lightning bugs glow
As the evening slips past

The stars are unveiling
As true souls always do
Memories catch my breath
I breathe them in for you

Tree swing in the night
We both drop our guard
Tumble to the ground
How I miss that farmyard

Candles in the window
And all around the room
Shadows of flames rest on your face
There was light with no moon

My mind begins to clear
As I sit in my swing
Still smiling to myself
We will always have these things...
