Octopus Eye
Shortly before midnight
On the evening before the storm
I walked out into the warm air,
Gazing up I saw a cloudy sky.
Clouds moved eerily slow
Like the tentacles in the deep sea’s ebb
And there amidst the clouds
Hung a halo moon,
An octopus eye,
Which watched me
Wary and intent, as if it knew
Something I didn’t.
Ready at any moment to syphon in
The galaxy and through propulsion
Expel star dust as it wisps away
Leaving me standing there
In the ink black night
Yet it stayed, slowly changing
Shape and color
As the clouds passed by.
There I stood in darkness,
With my imaginary octopus
Perfectly camouflaged
As the night sky
On the evening before the storm
I walked out into the warm air,
Gazing up I saw a cloudy sky.
Clouds moved eerily slow
Like the tentacles in the deep sea’s ebb
And there amidst the clouds
Hung a halo moon,
An octopus eye,
Which watched me
Wary and intent, as if it knew
Something I didn’t.
Ready at any moment to syphon in
The galaxy and through propulsion
Expel star dust as it wisps away
Leaving me standing there
In the ink black night
Yet it stayed, slowly changing
Shape and color
As the clouds passed by.
There I stood in darkness,
With my imaginary octopus
Perfectly camouflaged
As the night sky
