Sonnet Nr.01 — Man of the People
This man sees clearly through slithery bull
he cuts to the guts with an arrowed quill
elevates misfits with a human eye
to question assumptions, collective lies;
Burns to pointed issues of down-and-outs
and scrapes the decks of our long hidden doubts,
no sentimentalities pass his lips
raw truths make each poem a learning hit;
“See it this way … this, our humanity”
extracts humour from edged insanity,
gritty realism pokes our living rooms
as death hovers close like nit-picking combs;
John Brady, Man Of The People, earth-rooted
two-four-six-zero-one, bearded, blue-suited.

For gritty realism with humour, let John take you on a tour of society’s odd-balls, and show you their humanity is ours too. Razor-sharp observance of American cultural crazy-stuff combined with an integrity of collective soul, pressure-washes all lazy assumptions.
It's not a 'real' sonnet due to the rhyming scheme (being neither Shakespearean nor Petrarchan). Never mind, it's got 14 lines, scans 10 syllables/line, has a simple rhyming scheme, and ends in a rhyming couplet (but with 11, not 10 or 12 syllables).

Re. Man of the People
Josh, discovering John through the NaPo was the perfect way... because some of his best work came into being last April. He made it through the challenge with flying colors, and I think because he had never pushed himself in that way. So your tribute about him is spot on. The NaPo brought out the best in him, and you were able to observe it firsthand.👍🏻

Thank you Jade. Yeah, I was floored by John's NaPo poems, which shows I guess what 'NaPo' pressure can bring out of people. Whenever 'the blue man' appeared on the NaPo timeline I found myself going straight there.

I am so glad to see someone pay homage to John. And so perfectly too! I love his sharp edged reality blades. No dilly dallying with him...he just cuts to the chase. Says it as he sees it, unadorned. With the most subtle voice of compassion. Well done, Josh!

Thankyou Willow - you've got the 'mix' I was trying to convey - "sharp edged reality blades" but with a deep human(e) touch.

I'm not familiar with John Brady, but your own eloquence always amazes me. Fine work.
