Light In The Cottage

I enjoyed the warmth of intimate imagery this affords, Lozzamus.  I've hosted many an evening dinner followed by port, cheese, and fellowship.

The first stanza reads beautifully, yet the second seems a bit wordy. Not sure what to suggest.  Perhaps,

an open doorway, a whisper of light
the rich and golden taste of dusk
its glow settles close the hearth
illuminating copper and brass
warming the room, welcoming the guests

I love the specifics of the verse, so only trimmed a few words.

Lozz, this is a wonderful snapshot - that has so much more potential to explore.

I'm going to make various suggestions, mostly trimming out excess words.

The addition of duck is just being specific, because you want to make the most of your small poem.  

I replaced the repeated instance of "guests" to something more inclusive.

But I mainly want to focus on Stanza 2 - how it can be made to flow with rhyming what you already have.

Also, in this respect, the light becomes more of a guest livening up the gathering. And thus the gathering is becoming all inclusive - more than just people are welcome.

Guests having arrived
wait with their drinks
as roasting duck browns;
a late evening treat

Through doorway open
light invites itself in
whispers a taste of dusk
rich and golden;

glow settling on hearth
illuminating copper and brass
warming the room
welcoming everyone
