Image for the poem Indigo

Indigo

Tears of indigo I wept
Countless nights, I haven’t slept

Constant thoughts of giving up
Is this truly growing up

I wipe my tears and walk away
I smile wide with disarray

Behind that smile is a broken memory
Blurry to my vision, vivid to my sensory

You handed me a glass to drink
With smiling eyes, and a lingering wink

We clinked our cups and said a cheer
Two friends were here
But one will disappear

I drifted towards a moonlit garden
As your smile began to harden

Picked up a white flower
As you drank your whiskey sour

The whiskey fleets your grip
From your glass, to my hip

My vision blurred
Your conscience stirred

What you did was not humane
I close my eyes and still feel pain

I close my eyes, and see a flower
I reach for it’s petals
And to my touch they shatter

Like shards of glass, my skin is torn
I never knew that daisies had thorns

I close my eyes
I shut them tight

Blind me
kill my sight

The nuisance in my eyes

Won’t let me fall to sleep
These thoughts they cut too deep

The daggers in my back
The common sense you lack

To what you think of me
I am more than what you see

I am more than what you’ve done
Staring at my loaded gun

What you did was not humane
I close my eyes, yet still feel pain

And right before I go
I say
“Blind me, indigo”
