Coming to Terms

"What if we have to put her down? I don't know whether I'll be able to handle it"

Those words, coming from my wife, were a big thing for me to hear. Not because of the subject of which she spoke but because she had the courage to say them at all. She had come to terms with something that had plagued my mind for the last two months but that I had been to scared to bring up.

It was our dog that we were talking about. She had developed diabetes five years ago thanks to some stupid vet's medication advice. She'd had pancreatitis that almost killed her, got cataracts, gone through insulin shots twice a day and shone through it all. Now she was refusing to eat, or at least was relying on medication to make her.
She is due to have tests to find out what the problem is but until then we are left to our own devices.

For my wife to say what she did was a huge thing for her. She adores all our kids. I say the word "kids" lightly as none of them are of the human variety. We were not that lucky, but God works in mysterious ways and provided us with a family nonetheless. They are our children and like any parents, we do anything to ensure their health and wellbeing.

Coming to terms with any event can have a massive change on a person. Some do it easily, others need a little more patience and understanding. Either way, once you get over that hurdle of acceptance it should make the rest of the process a lot easier. Theoretically at least!!!!
