Universe Began By God Creating Light At the BIG BANG (Genesis 1.3)

LIGHT (Genesis 1.3) was the FIRST thing that God created
IOW, God's creating light was the very beginning of the creating of the Universe.
Here's how to defend that idea: Psalms 33.6-9 clearly says that God issued a creative COMMAND prior to creating the universe: "By the word of the LORD were the heavens made. And all their host by the breath of His Mouth...For He spoke and it came to pass. He COMMANDED, and it stood firm."

The first creative COMMAND is given in Genesis 1.3: "Then God said, 'Let there be light,' and there was light."
I want to emphasize that THIS is the FIRST creative command. There is NO command in verse 1 or 2. So there is NO BASIS for saying the creation of the universe began in verse 1 or 2. Verse 1 does say, "In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth." But that sentence doesn't make the creating of heaven and earth "past tense." It's not yet an established fact: heaven and earth do not yet exist at the end of verse 1. Why not?? Because no creative COMMAND has been given yet. So how do we categorize verse 1?? We can call it a topical statement, or a headline statement - like the headline in a newspaper belongs above the story. The headline tells what the story is going to be about. On that basis, "In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth," is informing us what the following chapter is going to be about. IOW, the creating of heaven and earth is going to FOLLOW that introductory sentence. Its not yet done. Even in verse 2 there is no heaven and earth yet. For we read "the earth was VOID and FORMLESS." Something totally void - that's just another way to say it isn't there !! Ditto with "formless." Something completely formless - how can that be?? Everything has at least a little form. So to say something is completely formless is to convey the ABSENCE of it. So far we have explained away the earth in verses 1 and 2. What about the ocean ("the deep") and its "waters" in verse 2: "And darkness was on the face of the deep, and the Spirit of God moved upon the waters." Obviously, if planet Earth doesn't exist yet, neither can the oceans exist which are located on that planet !! So "the deep" and it's "waters" have to be taken figuratively. Logically, the "darkness upon the face of the deep" conveys the literal darkness that existed before the Big Bang. So the ocean ("the deep") and its "waters" refer to the fathomless nothingness before the Big Bang. That "ocean" was truly a great "deep," endlessly deep.

We're done with verses 1 and 2. We're back to verse 3. "Let there be light!! .."
But how do we know that , "Let there be light!!" = a command ?? Well, Paul the apostle writes, "the God who commanded, 'Let light shine out of darkness,' has shone in our hearts..."(2 Corinthians 4.6). So Paul is confirming that "Let there be light!!" amounts to a command.

How can the Big Bang = the fulfillment of "Let there be light.." ?? Well scientists tell us that at the Big Bang all the energy in all the matter that exists in the universe  today came instantly into existence in the form of just one thing -- HEAT, trillions of trillions of degrees of heat. But heat isn't light, you may be saying. Wrong wrong wrong!! Heat IS light, infrared radiation !! We humans can't see heat, but God can. TO GOD, HEAT = LIGHT !! On that basis, we can say with justification: THE BIG BANG WAS THE FULFILLMENT OF "LET THERE BE LIGHT" (Genesis 1.3).
Yes, the Big Bang was created by God's divine command, "Let there be light.."

PS: If the earth wasn't created in verse 1, when was it created within Creation Week?? According to Romans 1.19-20,  Nature = God's revelation of Himself. It has come to be called, "General Revelation." Its on a par with Special Revelation, ie, the Bible. For Paul the apostle calls it the word of Christ. For Paul asks, "Have they not heard (the word of God)?(Romans 10.15-17). Then he answers "yes, they have." For "their word (the word of the skies) has gone out to all the earth." Paul is quoting from Psalms 19.4. So Paul is rising the status of "general revelation" to the level of "the word of Christ" !!

Now the study of Nature has developed into various sciences. Since the study of Nature reveals God, and = General Revelation, this means SCIENCE =GENERAL REVELATION. And science has given us the Big Bang theory. So THAT = General Revelation which should be used to interpret the Bible. I said all that just to say this: the Big Bang theory, the extension of it, says that the Solar System came into existence as a package. IOW, the Earth came at the same time as the sun and the moon. And since the sun snd moon are created in Day 4, so was planet Earth !! Yes, Day 4 is when Earth was created by God. When it says "the stars" it means the planets. For the term "star" was applied to the planets. They were originally, back in Moses's day, called "wandering STARS."

About the "separation of waters from waters" in Day 2(Genesis 1.6-8), since the original (uncreated) "waters" in verse 2 = the Void before the Big Bang, this enables us to grasp what's going on here. As the universe, created at the Big Bang, EXPANDS in line with the word "Expanse" in verses 6-8 (where the KJV has "firmament"), the space within the universe becomes separated from the massless Void beyond it. Space has mass and is curved, due to gravity. So it is separate from the Void beyond. So the Void and Space = the two groups of "waters." (Also space is made up of HYDROGEN, which is 2/3 of water. So there is a literal basis for calling space "waters.") The "Expanse," or advancing edge of the universe, is what separates what is within the universe from what is outside of it.

As for Day 3, the emergence of land as the waters recede, this scene conveys the theme of ISLANDS. And what are GALAXIES if not "islands in the seas of space." So thats what verses 9-13 are about: galaxy formation. The Big Bang theory does say the galaxies come at this point, right after the initial super expansion ("Inflation") of the universe.

Finally. we have to put aside the "days" of Creation Week as 24 hour days, on the basis that such a view is in the category of "childish things"(1 Corinthians 13.11). Paul writes that the creation of the universe took place in the timeframe of "eons." NOT 24-hour days!! For Paul uses aionos in Hebrews 11.3, in the first of the  "by faith" statements. And aionos is the Greek origin for the English word "eon." There are at least 3 Bible translations which get Heb. 11.3 right. Meaning that they transliterate "aionos" into eons - like it SHOULD be transliterated !! One version is Jubilee 2000. I forget the other two.Sorry.
Finally the Big Bang theory says the universe is 13.7 billion years old. Or just 12 billion, according to the latest adjustment. Either way, Genesis One agrees with it. For if we take the "6 days" each divided into evening and morning, that makes 12 sub periods which agrees with the 12 billion years. Or if we go with Creation Week, which means 7 days, this gives us 14 sub periods. So the number 14 would match the 14 in the 14 billion years (13.7 billion rounded off to 14 billion). Thank God for Genesis One !!
