Clear and succinct as always - and pointing to a truism that there is a right kind of self-ishness, and a wrong kind of self-ishness - and it is of the right kind that this poem speaks with determined intent.

Your comment had been missed, indeed. And now I understand why. Your presumption is right, however, it is meant to be empowering… Although I think people can interpret it either way depending on their own experiences.
My poems aren't meant to be read in one way or another, my intent may always differ from how people read it and feel about it, but that's the beauty of this craft!
