How to Spit Fire

I’m no rapper,
I’ve never been able to spit fire,
But I’m sick with this ire,
I’m tired of feeling irate,
It’s a trait that’s much less to be desired,
But I’m going to address this dead weight.

I’m sorry I’m wired that way,
But I’ve been working on my anger and languor these days,
These last few years, this past decade,
Learning to let go and forgive, yearning to peacefully live,
Being positive that everything is going to be okay.

Then I see the text and read the words and sense the sword,
Feeling the fuel that’s trying so hard to get me doused,
But I back away and detach, no I won’t light up the match,
I refuse to fall for it, it’s sick so no I won’t be roused.

I choose not to get angry, it’s not really worth it,
Why on earth unearth the venom that was buried long ago?
Why rebirth the callous malice handed in underhanded innuendos?
I see the war of words coming in a tsunami higher than all crescendos.

Relax and smoke some endo,
It’s legal now so there’s no need for you to be like “no entiendo”,
Pull out that old Nintendo or find some other away to unwind,
Let’s not be sour grapes, we’re too old for this kind of whine.

Let’s be civil, let’s be sincere,
Let’s be modest and honest and the animosity will disappear,
I believe in my heart that we can accomplish this,
There’s no need really to be pissed.

But if you’re going to bait me like that I will go on a quest,
I’ll aspire to traverse the ocean and the universe,
From China to the Shire in search of the best,
I’ll work my charm and get my classic swag on
For Mushu and Smaug and Puff the Magic Dragon,
I’ll be inspired by my dire straits and inquire,
I’ll acquire the knowledge while I study them,
I’ll discover the secret I so greatly desire,
And in the end I’ll learn from them…
How to spit fire.
