A Quintuple of Poets: Part V

Emily Dickinson, 415 Christian Era
Alexandria, Egypt

eschewed religion
  despite horrific consequences;
crucified footsteps
  along Via Dolorosa;

questioned theology;
     but, wisely
         outlining acceptable worship
beyond prayer beads, books
  charting astrology;

welcomed all regardless
    for who they were;

mathematical language
   calculated fibrous anomalies
   within her Neoplatonist mind—
   philosophical, mystical overtones

   Universally One

Wisdom superseding current times
   continues to be despised
                by ignorant counterparts
spreading rumours constructed from lies

a victim of political jealousy
    she received its deadly blow—
    remembered as dying persons
        freezing in the snow;

        first chill, afterward stupor
        then, finally—letting go

Italics - paraphrased from Emily Dickinson's 'After great pain, a formal feeling comes'*

* Wanted to try paraphrasing to maintain balance of words as 100% unique. I almost felt like quoting was the easy way out to duplicate.
